[Notice] 2021 RIKS Workshop Announcement

The Inaugural RIKS Workshop



  Since 2016, Korea University’s Research Institute of Korean Studies (RIKS) has worked in collaboration with the support of the Pony Chung Foundation 

to create an international platform, the RIKS Academy for the academic exchange among young scholars. The program is to foster a research 

community allowing interacting and communicating with each other. Beyond the traditional RIKS Academy framework, which focuses mainly on the 

diversification and expansion of research, RIKS opened a workshop to seek deeper insights and inquiries into an established topic.

  As RIKS Workshop an affiliate program of the RIKS Academy, the workshop is designed to afford opportunities for academic networking. The following 

two events aim to deepen participants' expertise and broaden networking connections between young Korean studies scholars: (1) Korean studies 

seminars and (2) Participant presentations and discussions of their research topics. The RIKS encourages all participants' research and cooperation, and we look forward to working with you.


○ Eligibility Criteria:

- Research groups must consist of former participants in the RIKS Academy(PhD recipients may also apply)

- Groups must consist of scholars in the field of Korean Studies (Masters/PhD)

- Groups must hold workshops in conjunction with mentors

- Interested parties must attend a lecture given in Korean, followed by a discussion or debate, also in Korean

- The field of Korean Studies refers to scholarship in the humanities or social sciences on the theme of Korea. This includes comparative research that focuses on Korea

- Applicants must fulfill all of the above requirements

○ Number of Finalists: (at least) 24 people (4 panels)

○ Research Funding:

- The selected finalists will be provided up to 1,000,000 Korean Won in funding(minimum six people per group)

- Each group will be provided up to 1,000,000 Korean Won for mentor(minimum two mentors per group)

- Groups will be provided up to 1,000,000 Korean Won for the implementation and hosting of workshops

○ Application Process:

- Application Form (Form Provided), Curricula Vitae for each member of the group(all participants must be included)

○ Application Deadline: August 1, 2021 (KST) (All deadlines are strictly enforced)

○ Selection and Decision Notification

- Submitted applications will be reviewed by the Academy’s Selection Committee at RIKS

- Results will be sent to applicants via email by August 30, 2021

- Selected teams must submit the announced document by November 30, 2021

- Detailed further instructions will be provided upon the notification of results
